Yesterday we welcomed the Independent Living Centre to our Mobility Showroom and number of NHS professionals – it was a great training session on #PressureUlcerPrevention and the importance of maintaining a good seating position.

Independent Living Centre

 

The Independent Living Centre (ILC) offers a free and impartial assessment and information service to anyone in Devon looking for equipment to help them to live independently.

 

We don’t sell equipment. Our NHS occupational therapists look at your needs and help you find the best solutions. When you find the equipment that meets your needs we can tell you where to buy it and how much you should pay, or we can find out if you are eligible for help from social care or health services.

Our demonstration centre in Newton Abbot has a huge range of equipment including aids for mobility, personal care, dressing, bathing, cooking, sitting and sleeping. We update stock regularly to ensure that we always have the latest equipment available. We also have a clothing advice service which gives advice about specialist dressing and clothing solutions.

At the assessment we will:

• Assess your needs and demonstrate equipment displayed in realistic settings, including a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom
• Help to identify the right equipment for you.
• Give you details of suppliers and how much the items should cost or advise if this equipment is available through statutory services.
• Give you useful information to consider before buying.
• Signpost you to other services if needed.
